Rates cover preparation, steel, concrete, finishing and GST. Monash permit fees are the council's and sit outside them. Guide rates until the job is measured; the written quote after the visit is the number we hold to.
The five things that set your number
A square metre rate is a starting grid, not a finish line. When we measure, five factors place your job inside its band, and each one appears as its own line in the quote.
Area. Trucks, crew and gear cost the same to bring to a 15 m² path as to a 60 m² driveway, so bigger pours buy cheaper metres. This is why we keep suggesting you pour the path with the drive: the second job effectively borrows the first one's setup for free.
What comes out. Break-out and cart-away runs $35 per m² flat, disposal included. It is the most predictable line on the card, and it never turns up mid-job as a surprise because it was measured with everything else.
The block. Monash splits neatly here. Flat Mulgrave and Clayton sites take concrete straight off the chute; the gullies of Mount Waverley and the Wheelers Hill ridgeline can need a pump, more formwork and staged pours, worth 10 to 20 percent. Which kind of site you own is obvious at the measure and priced there, once.
The finish. Broom finished grey anchors the bottom of every band. Full depth colour sits mid-range, and exposed aggregate tops it, with the stone blend the main mover inside that premium. The surface never changes what is underneath; see the specification.
The crossover. Where the job includes the street section, the City of Monash permit, its clearances and its two inspections join the programme. Council fees are separate and confirmed with the quote; the process itself is routine for us.
What Glen Waverley jobs actually land at
The suburb's staple, a 40 m² single driveway in exposed aggregate, prices between $5,200 and $7,400, and doubles on the rebuild blocks run $7,800-$11,100 at 60 m². A broom finished version of the same single drive is $3,800-$5,200. Side strips mostly come in under $2,000, double garage slabs under $5,500, and a 24 m² alfresco in stone between $3,100 and $4,400. Every one of these firms into a single written figure after a free measure.
Feed your own numbers into the calculator, then have a look at the specification to see what a rate on this card actually buys underneath the surface.

Money questions, answered straight
What is a fair per metre rate for concreting in Glen Waverley?
Off our published card: $90-$130 for paths, $95-$185 for driveways depending on finish, $100-$180 for patios, $110-$150 for shed and garage slabs, and $130-$185 for exposed aggregate, everything laid over a compacted base with steel in the slab. Guide rates until the job is measured; the written quote after the visit is the number we hold to.
Why did I get three different driveway quotes?
Because three different slabs were being priced. The differences hide below the surface, in base depth, mesh grade and concrete thickness, where a cheaper bid quietly shrinks. Get each of those in writing from every bidder, and hold them against our specification page. Comparing the per metre rate alone compares nothing.
Does the crossover cost extra?
The crossover concrete is inside the driveway rate, but the City of Monash charges its own permit and inspection fees for that section, and those are council charges outside any contractor quote. They change each financial year, so we confirm the current figures with your quote rather than printing stale ones here.
Is winter cheaper than summer?
Slightly, sometimes. The schedule loosens in the cold months and a flexible pour date is easier to slot, but rain windows narrow, and concrete rates themselves do not really move with the seasons. Book when the job is ready; the calendar games save less than pairing two jobs into one pour does.
